There are a lot of snakes in the swamp. Some of them are poisonous.

One of the ones you see the most is the water moccasin. It is also called a cottonmouth because the inside of its mouth looks like cotton. It is very poisonous. A cottonmouth is usually black or dark brown.

Another snake in the swamp is the rattlesnake. These are also poisonous. They have a brown pattern on their scales. They have rattles at the end of their tails.

There are also king snakes in the swamp. They eat poisonous snakes.

Other snakes in the swamp are copperheads, grass snakes, and coral snakes.

It is hard to tell a poisonous snake from one that is not poisonous. Do not ever touch a snake that you see in the wild.
